The Literary Festival
Over three days in September, the Throckmorton family hosted a stimulating line-up of writers in their home, where this year they celebrate their 600th anniversary.
Coughton Court is a stunning Tudor house set in 25 acres of landscaped gardens. It provides a sumptuous backdrop to hear some of our best-loved writers talk about their work, from crime writers and best-selling novelists to historians, biographers, and authorities on art, gardens, politics and religion.
Coughton Court has been home to the Throckmortons, one of the country’s oldest Catholic families, since 1409. The family was very prominent in Tudor times and later were instigators of Catholic emancipation. The house has witnessed some of the most defining moments in British history – from the court of Henry VIII to the Gunpowder plot of 1605.
The gardens have won awards from the Daffodil Society and World Federation of Rose Societies and are widely regarded as some of the finest in England.
